Snake Island is a small piece of land in the Black Sea the size of several football fields about 120 km away from the coast of Odesa. Despite its modest size, Snake Island has an important strategic position. Control over the island means control over seafaring in the region. This is exactly why the Russian troops attacked and occupied this territory on the first day of the full-scale war.
